Use it today

A simple first pass takes only a few minutes.

You do not need to complete the whole checklist at once. Use it as a noticing aid, then return after you have seen your child in more than one context.

01

Pick the closest age band

Start with the range that best fits today. Children may show different skills at different times.

02

Mark only what you see

Use ordinary play, meals, books, dressing, and transitions. Leave unknowns blank.

03

Write one concrete example

Record what happened and the context instead of writing only “good,” “late,” or “better.”

04

Choose the next question

Decide what to watch, what to try casually, or what you want to discuss with a qualified professional.

Make notes useful

Describe the moment, not your conclusion.

Specific notes are easier to compare over time and easier to share. Include the words, gestures, response, setting, and any context that may matter.

When you are concerned

A checklist should help you start a conversation—not delay one.

If you notice skill loss, hearing concerns, a sudden change, significant communication frustration, several persistent concerns, or you simply feel something needs checking, contact a pediatrician, audiologist, speech-language pathologist, or another appropriate qualified professional.

Paid next step

Turn scattered observations into clearer notes.

The Speech and Development Tracker gives you age-band pages, four reusable weekly logs, an at-home support menu, and an appointment-preparation worksheet.
